Ravi Menon, executive vice-president and general manager, Star One, has called it a day at the Hindi general entertainment channel (GEC). Currently, serving his notice period, Menon will be with the company till September 18. Menon has spent almost a decade at Star India, overseeing various channels. One of his primary responsibilities was overseeing the launch of Star One few years back. In 1996, he had worked as a freelancer with Star Movies and Star Plus. Subsequently, he has worked as executive producer for Kaun Banega Crorepati, handled operations at Vijay TV as general manager and also looked after programming for Star Plus and Star One. Menon also did a two-year stint at Sony Entertainment TV, between 2002 and 2004, as on-air department head. He joined Star India again in 2004 for the launch of Star One. At Star One, Menon was committed to certain youthful experiments, which separated the channel from other youth channels such as MTV, Zoom and Bindass, which largely cater to teenagers. Star One has clocked 39 GRPs for Week 36, according to TAM Media, which is 120 per cent less compared to a year ago period. For the latest week, Star One has managed to hold on to its sixth position and its relative share in the week is 4 per cent. Menon was responsible for launching shows like Hans Baliye, The Great Indian Laughter Challenge, Laughter Knights, Zara Nachke Dikha, Super Sale, Shakuntala, and some advertiser funded programme like Pond's Age Miracle Salaam-e-Ishq on Star One. |
