GEC Genre: Sony widens gap with Imagine in Week 33

The top three Hindi general entertainment channels (GECs) - Star Plus, Colors and Zee TV, have contributed 52 GRPs to the genre. There are two at the top, as per the latest data from TAM Media Research on the genre.

Star Plus and Colors are at par, with a relative share of 22 per cent each (C&S, 4+, HSM). Star Plus has recorded GRPs of 282 for the week, up from 266 a week earlier. Colors too improved its performance, its GRPs increased to 279 from 268 earlier.

Zee TV has maintained its No. 3 position this week, with a 21 per cent relative share of the GEC pie. The channel has increased its share from Week 32 by adding 26 GRPs and will launch two new fiction shows in coming weeks to improve its performance.

Sony Entertainment Television overtook NDTV Imagine to come in at No. 4 in the category with GRPs of 131 against 116 in the preceding week and the channel commands 10 per cent share of the GEC pie.

NDTV Imagine's ratings slipped after the channel's top show Rakhi Ka Swayamvar ended on August 2, to GRPs of 104 from 142 a week ago. The channel is down by 3 per cent channel share.

Sab TV has retained its position at No. 6 and has garnered 5 per cent share, while Star One has managed to hold on to its seventh position and its relative share in the week is 4 per cent. DD1 follows with 3 per cent share.

Sahara One and Star Utsav have both managed to grab 2 per cent share each, followed by 9X and Real, which have 1 per cent share each.

Amongst the top ten programs, Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai on Star Plus tops the charts with 8.14 TVR. Colors' Balika Vadhu is the second most watched property garnering 6.16 TVR. Chhoti Bahu on Zee TV is at No. 3 and has recorded a TVR of 5.5, followed by Uttaran on Colors, which has recorded a TVR of 5.18. Star Plus' Bidayi, with a TVR of 5, is the fifth most watched programme.

The other most watched programmes are Pavitra Rishta, Agle Janam Mohe Bitiya Hi Kijo, Na Aana Is Des Laado and Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Lil Champs-09. Sach Ka Saamna has made it to the Top 10 list in Week 33, with a TVR of 3.7.
