Lloyd Mathias, who had recently quit Motorola India as senior director, sales and operations, mobile devices, has joined Tata Teleservices as chief marketing officer (CMO). He will be based in Mumbai and will report to Anil Sardana, managing director, Tata Teleservices.

Though no official comments were available on Mathais' appointment, an internal communication sent out by CN Nagakumar, CHRO, Tata Teleservices, confirms that Mathais has joined the Tata Teleservices board.

Mathias had been with Motorola since 2005 and at the company, he spearheaded several marketing and retail innovations around the MotoRAZR, MotoROKR and MotoYUVA phones and was largely instrumental in rejuvenating the brand by signing on brand ambassador Abhishek Bachchan, rolling out exclusive Motorola branded stores and launching a slew of models.

Mathias started his career with Onida in 1991. With his hands strong on primarily on the sales and marketing function, he has worked with United Spirits (earlier known as the UB Group), as well as Pepsi.

At Pepsi, he spent 10 years, where he was chiefly responsible for the non-cola lot of the beverages section, which included brands such as Mountain Dew, 7Up and Aquafina. He was also looking at the promotions and events for these brands.
