Home personal computer users will soon have the luxury to surf the Internet and watch television using a single intelligent box. Makers of the low-cost PC called the Nova net PC from Novatium Solutions, is in talks with major telcos and Internet service providers (ISP) to offer broadband and Internet protocol television (IPTV) through a single connection and a single output set-top box. The company, which had launched the net PC in Chennai and New Delhi, is now planning to roll out in 10 cities within this fiscal. In Delhi, the company has partnered with Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) and has been commercially offering the services since early this year. Speaking with Televisionpoint.com, Jaideep Kohli, chief operations officer, Novatium Solutions, said that the company would be rolling out the services in Mumbai within next two months through the MTNL partnership. "We will leverage the partnership with MTNL and will launch this service in Mumbai. We are talking to a number of telecos and ISPs to for partner ship to offer integrated services through the available connectivity. Number of telcos are planning to rollout IPTV services, partnering with them will give us the edge to offer the services from a single point," Kohli said. Kohli said that the company is targeting one-lakh subscribers of net PC by the end of this fiscal. At present, there are more than 500 customers in Chennai and Delhi. "We have also partnered with Mauritius Telecom to offer our low cost PC. We have already made a booking of 1,500 till date," Kohli said. Kohli added that the Nova net PC is a server driven device, a feature which makes it an obsolescence proof PC, as all the updates are carried out centrally through the server. "It has the technical superiority to match up with all software advancements and yet it has the simplicity of an appliance. Coupled with its affordability, the net PC is a one-stop computing solution for almost everyone. The user does not need to own a CPU for his computer. The only requirement is a monitor, keyboard and the mouse," Kohli said. |
