The Hong Kong Designers Association (HKDA) Awards 2007, the Asia Pacific Design Biennale, which is celebrating its 35th anniversary this year, has called for entries from the region. HKDA aims at enhancing professionalism in design, the awards are widely acknowledged as one of the most prestigious multi-disciplinary design awards in the Asia-Pacific region. The theme of the HKDA Awards '07 is 'Design: No Junk Food'. The award show has four main categories including graphic, product, new media and spatial, and a total of 24 sub-categories. The judging panel this year includes Kirsten Dietz, founder and partner, Strichpunkt; Vince Frost, founder, Frost Design; Natasha Jen, designer, 2X4; Kashiwa Sato, founder, Samurai; and Sandy Choi, founder, Sandy Choi Associates, in graphic category. Pinky Lai, general manager of design, global clients and special projects, Style Porsche; Michael Young, founder Michael Young Limited; and Alan Yip, founder, Yip Design, are judges for the product category. In the spatial category there are three judges including Matali Crasset, founder of design house Matali Crasset; Fumita Akihito, founder, Fumita Design; and Norman Chan, founder, BTR Workshop Limited. And, Heike Brockmann, director and design coach at Scholz & Volkmer; Lars Cortsen, founder, Framfab; and Robert Lindstrom, co-founder North Kingdom, are judges in New Media category. HKDA Awards '05 received more than 2,600 entries, collected from 36 countries in the region. A new category named 'Beyond the Boundary' is added this year, which accepts creations beyond the existing parameters of commercially commissioned projects. The deadline of submission of entries is June 2, 2007. The results will be announced at the presentation ceremony in Hong Kong on October 5, 2007. The winning entries will be showcased at the Hong Kong Central Library from 5-14 October 2007 and published in the HKDA Awards '07 catalogue. |
