M.K. Azhagiri, son of chief minister M. Karunanidhi, on Thursday sent a legal notice to Sun TV warning of legal action unless the satellite channel "desists from telecasting defamatory statements" against him.

In a notice to the managing director of Sun Network, Kalanidhi Maran, Sun TV news editor V. Raja and Sun News news editor Doyal, advocate Muthramalingam said the channel was telecasting news in a "defamatory and derogatory manner" against his client Azhagiri.

"In the news you are making false, frivolous and baseless allegations against my client," he said and added that unless the channel stopped the campaign he would be "constrained to initiate legal proceedings both in civil and criminal " courts against him.

Accusing the Sun network of spreading false propaganda against Azhagiri, the advocate said his client was never implicated in the CPM councillor Leelavathy murder case and in the case relating to the attack on the Dinamalar office in Madurai.

Muthuramalingam said his client Azhagiri enjoyed the support of the people due to his dedicated public life.
