From presenting a collection for men and women of different shapes, sizes and ages to an Oceania theme last year, Wendell Rodricks stayed true to his seaside state of Goa and presented Resort 2006 inspired by the legendary dancer Isadora Duncan, whose free wheeling spirit could best be suited to Wendell Rodricks' creations. Proving once more that embellishments are an unnecessary evil in fashion, Wendell's stark uncluttered creations in silk, satin, chiffon, cotton, organza, linen and coarse wool were beautiful to wear and behold. With his characteristic mastery over garment cutting, construction and tailoring the creations were easy to wear sexy fluid garments. The colour story was primarily white with aqua peach, acid green, being the other alternatives. Some striking beauties that were eye catching was the Grecian inspired crushed cotton mini blouse with girdling tie ups at Empire line and sleeves. The ivory herringbone silk with single scarf sleeve and single seams, diagonal draped washed and crushed for a dramatic garment was an ensemble that gave seaming a new dimension. Wendell also borrowed from Indian folk garments for his white Gujarati Kedia inspired pleated cutaway tunic with ribbed green mini. The finale creation of a petal inspired blouse in Organza silk was a dream of a garment. Shoulders, back, midriffs, and legs were tantalizingly visible under most of the garments. Fabric texturing like crushing, twisting, double pleating, rouching added to the beauty of the elegant garments. Asymmetry and layering went together for most garment silhouettes. Men's wear was basic with shirts, T-shirts, trousers and some sharply tailored jackets giving the male resort line some fashionable choices. When it comes to relaxed easy styling Wendell Rodricks knows how to cut his cloth and where to seam the darts; so that the garment is timeless in its elegance and appealing to a cross section of buyers. For record note, Lakme Fashion Week (LFW) is a joint initiative between Lakme, the leading cosmetics brand and a pillar of the fashion industry in India, and IMG, the global leader in fashion weeks and event production. LFW has been conceived and created with an aim to integrate India into the global fashion world. LFW will be organised twice every year. The inaugural Fall/Winter Week will be held from March 28 – April 1, 2006 at the National Centre for Performing Arts (NCPA), Mumbai and the Spring/Summer Week in September-October 2006. New initiatives like 'Emerging Designer Category' and 'GenNext' will be unveiled for the first time in India at the inaugural Lakme Fashion Week 2006 with an aim to provide a platform for promising young talent to establish themselves across India. Both Lakme and IMG have been pivotal to the success of the Lakme India Fashion Week over the last six years. |
