"TOI TO BUSH: Do you consider India a responsible nuclear nation? BUSH TO TOI: I Do", was the headline phrase across the left panel portion in all the ten editions across the Times of India's Feb. 24 edition. To respect the sole media rights, the TOI has to interview the US President George Bush, the world's largest read english newspaper, had decided to go without any advertisement in the first half of the front paper. US President George Bush has given his First Ever Interview to an Indian Media Entity, the Bennett, Coleman & Co Ltd (BCCL), the publisher of The Times of India and the owners of the news channel Times Now. The TOI's respect to the people of India and its credibility to deliver news, the Best and the Fast, has made the media giant suffer a loss of more than Rs 3.5 crores in advertising for the Interview, according to sources. Speaking exclusively to Televisionpoint.com, Arun Arora, President, BCCL, said, "We at BCCL are responsible to the nation 'India', and to its people. The George Bush visit to India for signing the US-India nuclear agreement is an landmark deal in itself and our Marketing team came up with a idea for not placing any advertisements on the front page panels, so that the Times Exclusive Interview content is not being distracted. We agreed with the proposal and implemented it in our all of the editions." The US President George W Bush spoke to TOI's Washington Correspondent Chidanand Rajghatta on the eve of his India visit. Chidanand Rajghatta is a responsible journalist of the country, he received International laurels for his news items - 'China's great build-up to superpower' and the 'Dubya's unity mantra to fight terror'. Note that, Bush in his interview said, "I'm a cricket match person. It's a great pastime. He also said that India's religious and ethnic diversity and tolerance has given a predominantly Hindu country a Muslim President, a Sikh Prime Minister and a Roman Catholic woman leader." Not only did the Times of India Interview George Bush, it was also the DNA Newspaper (Bhaskar Group has rights to interview the US President), today DNA also carried the interview with Bush on its front page. Interviewed by Udai Jain of DNA, Now Hear This - According to Televisionpoint.com calculations Udai Jain is the same man, Chidanand Rajghatta, of the Times of India. The Great Indian Print Wars are very exciting, as Mr Bush has said exactly what he has said to someone else at an earlier interview, we mean TOI and DNA Interviews are one and the same. For more depth see below example. Rajghatta's opener - How and why has India come front and centre to US strategic thinking now after being on the margins for so long? Jain's opener - Mr. President, how and why has India come front and center to US strategic thinking after being on the margins for so many years? |
