After a brush with Bollywood flicks, the Afghanis are now watching the saas-bahu serials. Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, Kahani Ghar Ghar Ki, is as popular among the Afghani women as their Indian counterparts. The men too love watching Kaun Banega Crorepati 2. Meanwhile watching hours of Hindi dramas have honed their understanding of Hindi to an extent that it has become a rage. The women in Afghanistan too wait during evenings for their favourite serials. "My mother watches Kumkum with a lot of interest. She just loves the character. She appreciates her struggle and never misses it," Kais Ayubzai, a faculty member of Kabul University from Afghanistan, said. He is on a two-month tour of India to study law along with 20 other professors from various Afghanistan universities. Afghani women identify themselves with various characters and shed tears for their grief and smile for their happy moments. "My wife finds the heroine of Astitva a very bold woman," he said. Though men do not watch much television, even then they do not miss KBC2. "KBC2 is my favourite. I do not miss it. I love Amitabh Bachchan," said Farhan, a faculty member of Herat university. Farhan also pointed out that the fashion too is changing. "The women love the dresses, which the characters of various serials wear. The embroidered lehngas dupattas are a rage among them. Everybody wants to possess atleast one such dress. Jeans too are no more a taboo," he said. Youngsters are learning Hindi fast. "We have been watching Hindi films since ages. We love the Bollywood heroes and heroines as much as you do. But now with the serials having become a part of our daily life, influence of Hindi has increased to a great extent. We have become more conversant in Hindi now. We prefer talking to Indians in Hindi. Its very popular among the young generations," he said. |
