Advertising revenues for all media segments jumped by 14.1% this year to RS 13,200 crore from last years RS 11,600 crore. Internet emerged as the star performer of the year, which saw a 78.3% increase in its advertising revenues over the previous year. However, Internet's share in the total advertising pie was only 0.8% this year compared to last years share of 0.5%.

Ad revenues of radio grew by 44.5% this year but print media tagged much behind with only 16.1% increase in its ad revenues. Television stood fourth with its ad revenues increasing by only 11.4%. Ad revenues of cinema and out-of-home entertainment increased by 8.2% and 6%, respectively.

Print media's share of 47.9% in the total advertising revenue pie was the biggest. Whereas, TVs share was only at 41%, out-of-home entertainment had a 6.8% share, radio had 2.4%, cinema had 1.1% and Internet's share was 0.8% in the total ad revenue pie.

However, these figures aren't much different from those in 2004. Last year, too, print media's share in the total advertising pie was the largest at 47.1%, followed by TVs 42%. Share of out-of-home entertainment was 7.3%, radio had a share of 1.9%, cinema had 1.2% and Internet's share was 0.5%.

"Television and print have been bringing in new advertisers in the last two years, hence their ad revenues have been growing." says an senior exective related to the matter.
