Eight Journalists including two Zee News cameraman Firdaus Ahmed and Sartaj, One Sahara Samay cameraman, sustained bullet injury in a militant attack in Srinagar at Lal Chowk. India TV's Manzoor Mir was also hit by a bullet in his leg. Ajaz Ahmed of ANI, Muzamil Ahmed of Srinagar Mail were also seriosuly injured. Later in the evening a cameraman of Sahara TV channel was hit in the stomach in the cross-fire between militants and security forces. TV Reporters and Cameraman were in the area to cover the religious event. Immediately after the camera person sustained injury, the injured Journalists and Cameraman were rushed to the hospital. However, in an act of bravery and professionalism the Zee News and other channels team including Aaj Tak, NDTV India, Sahara Samay continued covering the event, the power of Journalism. After forcing movie halls to shut down, Kashmiri militants have now trained their guns on the only available form of entertainment in the Valley, cable TV. Angry cable operators throughout the Valley switched off their service on Friday to protest against what they called refusal by local police to heed their pleas for protection against terrorist attacks. Mir Amjad, president of Kashmir Cable Network Association, said in the last fortnight alone suspected separatist militants had gunned down three men who were working for cable operators. The police, he alleged, was refusing to see this as 'terrorism-related'. Militants planned the attack to target Chhadi Mubarak at Dashnami Akhara here on the way to Amarnath Yatra. Terrorist group al-Mansurian has claimed responsibility for the attack. |
