The Supreme Court today has dismissed at the admission stage a special leave petition by the AIADMK Member of Parliament P.G. Naryanan challenging a Madras High Court order dismissing his PIL seeking a direction to the Centre not to allow Sun Direct Television to get DTH service licence. A Bench comprising Justice Y.K. Sabharwal and Justice G.P. Mathur, said senior counsel Mukul Rohatgi, appearing for the petitioners, that it is a petition filed in the personal and political interest, thus dismissed the petition, saying no public interest was involved in it. The High Court had pointed out that Sun TV's application was still under the Centre's consideration and no licence had yet been granted and said "no case of public injury had been made out and we do not see how the petitioner has the locus standi to raise the issue". It should be noted that, However, the Bench, while rejecting the petition, did not impose any costs. |
