The American TV news media sprang into action before dawn on Thursday as word came from across the Atlantic of London bombings. Fox News put initial reports about the explosions in London at 4:56 am ET with anchor Donna Fiducia, and MSNBC was on the air with early news at 5 am The cable news channels, CNN, MSNBC, Fox News, and even CNBC, started providing wall-to-wall coverage, using a mixture of their own correspondents and feeds from Britain. CNN used coverage from its CNN International before going to its regular 'American Morning', co-anchored by Miles O’Brien and Soledad O’Brien. All of the networks used full-court presses to cover the explosions, alternating between London, the Scotland site of the G-8 summit, Washington, DC, and New York City. 'Good Morning America', went into overdrive. The ABC breakfast-cast did an extra hour on the East Coast between 9-10 am said Jeffrey Schneider. "We have a pretty robust presence there already," Schneider said, referring not only to the network’s London bureau but because White House correspondents were on hand in Scotland to cover the G-8 summit. By midday, CNBC had deployed a number of anchors and reporters at the NYSE, the New York Mercantile Exchange, an airport and even the Sun Valley Media Conference in Idaho. |
