The Board of Control for Cricket in India, BCCI Marketing commitee has taken an important decision of starting its own production and direct selling of footage to the news channels. "BCCI Network would soon come up and news channels using our footage would have to show the network's logo as well. BCCI owns its rights and we would market it in the best possible way," BCCI vice-president Lalit Modi said on Tuesday. "News channels won't buy footage from broadcasters anymore. Broadcasters are merely our licencees and they are not owners of the rights. We had a meeting with the broadcasters and they are also happy with us." Modi said. "We are looking into Olympics and Commonwealth Games guidelines before preparing our rate card," he informed. Regarding sharing of feed with public broadcaster, Modi said, "We would go by the Government decision and won't challenge it." Within the committee, a sub-committee was formed to expedite the tender process, with Modi as its chairman and other members include three former Board presidents, IS Bindra, AC Muttiah and Ranbir Singh Mahendra, KV Rao and vice- president Shashank Manohar. BCCI Network logo is being designed and the Board was registering its trademark, Modi informed. Besides the sale of radio and broadband rights, BCCI is also looking to cash in on the telecom boom by announcing separate rights for mobile telephony. "The revenue potential from MMS, SMS, Video Imagery and Gaming from these appliances will grow exponentially in the years to come," Modi said. |
