With two formats already on the air, Rebel's Way as Remix on Star One and Wild Angel as Miilee on Star Plus, Telefe International is excited about the prospects of local production across the region. According to Gonzalo Cilley, the head of formats and international production at the company, the shows have done well in India because the original titles on which they are based "are universal stories with identifiable characters. The adaptation that Star did of the original scripts was excellent and for that reason the final product is perceived by the audience as local." Cilley adds, "We are in discussions with other networks and production companies in India that have shown interest in adapting some of our fiction formats." Cilley notes that India has been particularly receptive to formats of novelas because "the urban culture of Indian cities is comparable to the urban cultures of some Latin American cities, in particular to Buenos Aires, where Rebel Way and Wild Angel are set." |
