Sri Adhikari Brothers 24 hour TV channel 'Janmat' is going on air early October. The current affairs and news channel received the uplink permission from the I&B ministry earlier this month. Touted as the first interactive and current affairs channel in the country, it will have over 45 shows in a variety of genres across the board, from hard-core social and political analysis to crime, lifestyle, youth, education and women-related programming. Viewers can participate through a variety of interactive media. At its launch, Janmat will introduce a talent hunt for television anchors throughout the country. Aspiring candidates will be given the chance to anchor shows on the channel. Markand Adhikari, vice-chairman and MD, said, "Janmat will create its own space and niche for which the Adhikari Brothers are well known for. The channel would be an interactive one, enabling viewers to participate and air their opinions. This would be the first channel that would focus on people's views and blend it with the news of the day." Over 300 personnel would be recruited for the channel, with around 10 per cent of these being journalists. Adhikari Brothers has also roped in Divya Sharman Mehta, who had worked with Star TV and Channel V, as creative director, senior journalist Harish Gupta has been appointed as director, news operations, while Umesh Upadhyay will look after the day-to-day affairs of the channel. Note that this year, Sony Entertainment Television has acquired the SAB TV brand, with 1,350 hours of programming for RS 57 crore. |
