Toon Disney, the Kids channel from Walt Disney Television will now be launched in Hindi from September 1 2005 to strengthen the Disney position in India. Toon Disney is already available in English, Tamil and Telugu languages. "The kids channel market is a huge growing market which continues to be undeserved especially at the local level. We intend to increase localisation of our brand in the country through Toon Disney in Hindi," Rajat Jain, Managing Director, Walt Disney Company India said. "As of now, 1800 hours of programming episodes in Hindi for 60 shows and 5400 hours of programming for 2,000 animated titles have been dubbed in three languages.", Rajat Jain informs. He further says that "the audience response to Toon Disney in south India has also encouraged the launch of channel in Hindi." Toon Disney in Hindi would target 15 to 17 per cent in the Hindi speaking market in the age group of 4 to 14, he further said that India has about 350 million kids, below the age of 14, hence Disney plans to explore exponentially. At present Disney has a reach of around 16 million cable and satellite homes in India and expects to reach 20 million homes by the end of this year. |
